I attended the National Safety Council Exhibition in Chicago this week. This is a venerable American institution dedicated "to preventing accidental injuries in the workplace, on roads and highways, and in homes and communities." It was a natural thing for us to attend and turned out to be a very interesting visit.
There were hundreds of booths displaying every sort of PPE and it appeared very well attended. I met with the good folks at "Occupational Health & Safety Magazine" and I was delighted to see our 2 page feature article in print. The magazine has excellent readership and our www.safetytoes.com website has registered a sharp up-tick in web searches originating from the link on the OH&S website.
The 'Slipp-R', and the 'Clean Room Slipp-R', appeared to be the only steel toe overshoe on display at the Exhibition. There were a number of undershoe products but the only overshoes I saw were the Tingley rubber ones. Why nobody was showing overshoes with safety toes was remarkable.
Perhaps this can be explained by the narrow marketing these products have had over the years. If steel toe overshoes are viewed as only an item of PPE for visitors then they will never achieve any prominence in the occupational safety world. Visitors are not covered by OSHA rules which are intended only to ensure minimum protection for workers. As you may know by now, our thrust has been different.
Occupational safety for workers demands robust and sturdy products. They must be capable of enduring industrial handling which can be rough. The 'Slipp-R' is well suited to deliver that kind of performance. The design and material incorporated in the 'Slipp-R' were very well received by everybody who saw it on our distributor's booth and by the personnel at the various other trade publication booths that we visited.
The visit to the National Safety Council annual event was a milestone that marked the end of a year in which we launched the now well respected all-original 'Slipp-R' and the equally unique "Clean Room Slipp-R'.
Our distributor shared our prediction for an excellent 2008.
Mister Safetytoes.
